Matthew Cox - I’m an architect and through practice and research, I’m seeking to develop an understanding of how to work alongside communities on building and infrastructure projects in the developing world. When Mark told me about the work of Pump Aid and his idea of walking for water it was a privilege to be asked to offer my support. Partly, because the money and awareness raised will mean that communities on the margins of society will receive desperately needed clean water and sanitation. But also, because these initiatives emphasise the longer-term process of helping to develop peoples’ skills so that individuals and communities can take control of their own future.
